WSJ Article Points to India’s “outdated rules” not allowing spouses to work. What about USA?
In response to the WSJ article (which is reproduced here), I contacted the person that contributed the article with my feedback.
Ms. Kathleen:
I read your article on outdated visa rules in India. While I understand your argument that the rules should be relaxed so dependent spouses (husband or wife) could apply for work permit, it is quite important to note the reciprocity rules and how thousands of Indians are left to stay home without having an ability to work.
For example, in the U.S., there are thousands of H-4 individuals, dependent visa holders of H-1B work permit visa holding spouses. These H-4 ... [Read the rest]

Is social networking the key ?
This is my first post. I was just going through the posts and thought to put down my thoughts as they came probably review them later.
I have been in US for past 1 year on H4. During this time i met a lots of Indians and their families some of them are now Americans.
After meeting them i realized the once happy and satisfied were those who had good number of friends. Even if the spouse was on H4 it did not matter. They seemed to be families away from home.
This made me thinking is it my legal status or inability ... [Read the rest]

H4 spouses share experience to make a difference
Hi my name is Arlene and I am a journalism student at Columbia University, NY. I am doing a story on the difficulties faced by spouses on H4 visas and the problems they may directly or indirectly face because of their visa status and not getting the permission to work.
I am looking to speak with individuals who can share their experiences with me to highlight the plight of such spouses, so that we could collectively make a difference.
Anyone interested in talking about their experiences may email me at amc2237@columbia.edu with your email address and phone number (in the subject please ... [Read the rest]

What am I doing here?
Strange land, strange faces
familiarity will never come
my heart not letting it.
Home, where is home?
the home I left behind never to return
as girl, as woman lost
forever, lost again
in a sea of strange faces
alone I sleep, I wake, I feed
on my soul, punishment
leaving behind love,
love for a girl no more
and yet finding love again
as woman, and again
in his arms for eternity
I pray, and still... alone.
Hours passing by
days, months, years
forever in a land of strange faces
revelling in love
and yet, pining for a love
left behind. [Read the rest]
